When England won the World Cup in 1966 playing on their own soil, few would predict that this would be a curse instead of a joy for the team. That day in July at Wembley Stadium was a memorable day for the captain Bobby Moore and his players, but players who tried to emulate their performance since then have suffered traumatic experiences as the Cup has always been a bridge too far. England in the 2010 World Cup is expected to come at least to the final. However, this is the constant expectation of a team that has managed to reach the semi-finals only once, in 1990.

England is not three times to qualify for the finals, and they came out in the quarters in 2002 and 2006. English fans are getting used to having their hopes on every four years, only to see them then quickly dashed when the teams closer to the top of the podium. World Cup in 2010, expectations were unusually high because the team seems to have serious players, and especially the commitment necessary to get high.

Much of that optimism is due to the presence of an Italian coach as a manager. Fabio Capello is a very successful coach with many clubs in Italy and abroad and has extensive experience in World Cups and major competitions. After a truly stellar career in Italy and at international level, Capello has enjoyed success as a manager of Milan, Roma and Real Madrid, coaching key players and big stars.

Capello himself said about England in the 2010 World Cup that he does not want to blow high expectations, but he knows that the team is expected to go well. According to the players of the team, Capello has the useful knack of opportunity to all the best players in the team to get, listening to their opinions and views and then give his own theory and natural wisdom.

England in the 2010 World Cup is indeed expected to do well, because it begins on a relatively simple group – or at least it seems that way. However, to find success in South Africa, the team has its best players to be in excellent shape. England is blessed with some of the most famous and best players in the world, like Wayne Rooney, Frank Lambard and John Terry, a major role in their clubs too.

David Beckham is the major player absent from England in the World Cup 2010 because he suffered from a serious ankle injury that he look at all the matches of his house. Beckham is an important member of the team, so that Capello would bring him to the team to South Africa to motivate his players.

England in the 2010 World Cup has a lot to prove, once again. The team to the weight of expectations that is heavy on the back roads of the players for so many years to overcome? We’ll see about that after the first few rounds are over.
